The number of happy spots are growing in Calgary. Not that I’m complaining. I’ve noticed that my husband’s favourite local pub Newcastle offers a daily happy hour from 3:00 pm- 6:00 pm.
Newcastle features draft beers, hi balls, domestic bottles and house red or white wine for only $4.00. So cheap! For happy hour eats, there are four $4.00 options. We’ve tried the pickles, dry ribs and the two cheeseburger sliders.
The dry ribs and mini cheeseburgers were alright. The best of the bunch were the fried pickles. For $4.00, you have nothing to complain about. However, I will say that the regular price food does taste better than the happy hour bites.
Personally, I prefer the fish and chips. At lunch you can get a one piece cod with fries for $9.99. On Fridays, you can get a two-piece cod and chips for $11.99 (regular price is $16). The wings are tasty as well, and only 25 cents on Wednesdays.
I hear Hy’s Steakhouse has a wicked happy hour from 3:00-7:00pm. Champagne is half off and cocktails are on special. I plan to check Hy’s version of happy hour soon. Stay tuned…
